Income Report – September 2012

Hey! By the way… This blog earns money via affiliate marketing – meaning that I earn commissions when you purchase a product or service after clicking a link on this site. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Thank YOU in advance – I really appreciate it.

Welcome to the Dumb Passive Income – income report! I can honestly say that I am pleased with the little bit of progress that is starting to happen. Although my niches site efforts are still barely paying off, there are a few streams of internet income that are starting to drip money into my accounts.

Admittedly, some of this income isn’t passive. For example, the article income I am receiving for writing a few posts for the Penny Thots blog isn’t really passive. But, I agreed to write 2 or 3 posts per month for that blog from it’s very beginning, which was just before I started this blog. That is an agreement I plan to see through and look forward to the shared success with the sites owner and the other main writers.

Carbonite Referral Program

This source of income is one that I didn’t see coming for the month of September and one that I wasn’t really actively promoting. That makes it passive, right?! This is the time of year that I renew my subscription to Carbonite (affiliate link). Within the renewal e-mail they sent me was an explanation of a promotion they were running for September within their referral program. Formerly, a paid referral would get me 3 free months added to my subscription, as well as 2 free months for the person I referred. Their new referral program pays out in the form of $10 Amazon gift cards (still 2 free months for the person referred), but they were offering $20 Amazon gift cards per referral for the month of September only. I got one sign-up and already have the $20 Amazon gift card sitting in my e-mail inbox! Darn right I am including this in my income report! After all, it is income earned via the internet.

I’ve been using Carbonite to back up my home computer for several years now and I swear by it! It actually saved my ass when the hard drive crashed on my last computer. It was shot and all of my files would have been unrecoverable had I not been using Carbonite. I purchased a new computer, pulled up my account at Carbonite and had all of my files restored to my new computer exactly the way they were set up on my old computer. These files included all of my music (over 300 cd’s), all of my pictures, financial files (Quicken and TurboTax data) and all of my documents and spreadsheets (from before I started using Google Docs). So, not only does Carbonite provide me with incredible peace-of-mind, it’s also a very handy tool to use for moving files after purchasing a new computer.

I’ve been singing the praises and highly recommending Carbonite for years now. If you would like to try it out for FREE, click on any of these links. They still offer a 15 day trial (no credit card required) for free. If after 15 days you don’t want it, you simply uninstall it. If you do sign up and purchase using one of my affiliate links you will receive 2 free bonus months as well. Not only that, but you will also be able to take part in and take advantage of the referral program! You too can refer family and friends and start earning Amazon gift cards! And as you know, Amazon sells just about every product imaginable – so Amazon gift cards are as good as cold hard cash.

Income and Expenses – September 2012

Here is how the rest of my income and expenses break down for September 2012…

Google Adsense

  • $6.62 – almost entirely from Niche Site #1

Article Writing

  • $4.19 – Yahoo Contributor Network for page views on published articles from last month
  • $9.31 – articles written for Penny Thots blog

Affiliate Income

  • $6.40 – Amazon Associates for sales commissions
  • $20.00 – Carbonite referral program

Hosting and Domains

  • $9.95 to HostGator (Affiliate link) for hosting on this site and all of my niche sites
  • $8.17 to GoDaddy for one domain

Total Income ($46.52) minus Total Expenses ($18.12) equals a net profit of $28.40!

I’m in the green baby! I’m excited at the direction my side hustle income seems to be going. It’s already looking promising for next month. I think I’m getting another $150 sponsored post offer for my old blog (which is ridiculous because that blog has been inactive since I started this one). Hopefully a few of my other niche sites will start to rank and start earning. I also have another idea, which is kind of going to be the next big thing as far as my passive income efforts, that I might introduce later next month.

Until then, remember that there are several dumb ways to create passive income online, but only one site that is blogging about it! Dumb Passive Income… dot com.

  1. Congrats on the positive month! That’s excellent. I believe I’m going to be showing a positive income on my end as well. Not much but it’s better than last month’s $0. Keep up the hard work and I look forward to hearing about future growth.

    • Thanks Steve. You’re right, something is better than nothing. Little did I know at the time I was writing this report that Google had slapped down their latest update and would be changing the way I do everything going forward. More to come on that…

  2. wow, Awesome Matt! I have not had time to write up my income post yet, and there was some growth compared to last month, but nothing like yours. It definitely makes me want to work on my new niche sites thats for sure!

    • Yeah Bryan, my income can definitely be sporadic. Over $100 one month, then negative another month, then $28.. then who knows?!

I’m a little bit uncertain what I am going to do with my niche sites at this point, given the latest Google update. Definitely need to re-think my strategies – just like everybody else in this biz.
