Dumb Passive Income

What’s with the domain name? Why do I call myself dumb? Well, there is another blog out there with a similar domain name. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it or not – SmartPassiveIncome.com…

If you compare what that other guy has done online, over the years, to what I’ve done – obviously… he is the smart guy and I am the dumb guy. I thought the domain name was kind of funny and catchy and I was shocked that it was available when I thought of it. So I bought it and built my brand around it. Ha!

More recently, I thought it would be even funnier to rebrand myself within the same brand and start calling myself a dumb ass! After all… you can’t spell Dumb Passive Income without dumb ass in there! Lol. You can read all about my thoughts on this decision to rebrand inside one of this dumb ass weekend update blog post.

Passive Income

Passive Income can be defined as an income received on a regular basis, with little effort required to maintain it.

My ultimate goal is to create as much of this type of income as possible. I know and understand that almost no income is truly passive. But I try to focus on the last part of the definition – with little effort required to maintain it. I’ve found out over the last several years that creating passive income requires a great deal of effort up front. But once the money starts rolling in month after month, it’s totally worth it!

The Blog

I started this blog in May 2012. At that time, I had been dabbling with blogging for several months and I was unsuccessfully trying to make money online. Eventually, I started to figure some things out and make a little money. Over time, I’ve built relationships with other online marketers and I’ve learned a great deal from many of them. I am constantly feeding my brain with content from other bloggers and I do my best to keep up with the latest trends.

Much of DumbPassiveIncome.com is about how I make money online with my blog and with niche websites. I blog about my journey and many of the strategies that I’ve tried and implemented in order to create income online. I also have published blog posts about other strategies that I’ve tried in an attempt to create internet income – like selling on Amazon or investing in peer-to-peer lending.

About Me

My name is Matthew Allen. At least, that is how I refer to myself online. Matthew Allen is my real first and middle name. When I started out online, I left out my real last name in order to maintain a certain degree of anonymity. I don’t care about the anonymity anymore, but the name stuck and people know me by Matthew Allen. So I’m leaving it that way. My real last name is irrelevant to what I do online – but at the same time I’m not trying to hide it.

I am NOT a full-time internet marketer. I still work a day job as a truck driver. And yes, I’m talking about a big ole tractor-trailer semi-truck. Ever hear of a dumb truck driver who is also an internet marketer? I’m one of those weirdos who actually loves his day job. Driving a truck and being out on the road is an absolute passion of mine and I love interacting with customers at the many stops I visit each day. Creating enough passive income to be able to quit my day job is not even a goal for me. Creating enough passive income to ease some financial burdens is more like it.

I am a husband to my beautiful wife – Susie. Together we’ve created an incredible family. We have 2 amazing sons – Ethan and Eli. And the most adorable daughter in the world – Elena. Most of my free time on nights and weekends is spent with my family and they are my motivation and reason for wanting to create passive income.

Picture taken at The Cottage Inn in downtown Grand Rapids, MI in December of 2019. Kids are wearing Santa hats because we just finished delivering Christmas gifts to less fortunate families for a local charitable organization.

Susie and I were both born and raised in the great state of Michigan (on the west side). We love the 4 seasons in Michigan and we’ve chosen to stay and raise our children here. Spring and Fall are our favorite seasons, when it’s not too hot and not too cold outside. During the summer, we love spending time on the beaches of Lake Michigan. During the winter, we’ve been known to hit the local sledding hills.

Recently, my internet ‘side hustle’ income has enabled us to be able to build a brand new home. And I have to admit – our new home isn’t in the price range that you would typically see a truck driver in. This is one of the rewards that I now get to enjoy as a result of many years of hard work and dedication. But it’s not over – not by a long shot. It is NOT free-sailing from here on out. I must keep working just as hard (or harder) to keep increasing my internet side income with a new goal of getting our brand new house paid off as soon as possible!

  2. Hi Matt,

I can’t remember how I got here; I think it was after googling “Niche Pursuits.” Anyways, I am glad I found your blog and I am privileged to be the first person to write a comment on your About Me page. I hope you are still active in the passive income realm and wanted to comment you on very good looking site and refreshing style of writing. Believe it or not, this is the very first comment I have ever written on a Blog! Something about the way you communicate through your writing resonated with me.

    Good luck to you.

    Bemate –

    • Congratulations on your first comment ever Bemate! Yes, I’m still active. I hope you stick around to see what the future holds for me and passive income and everybody who reads and comments on this site.
