I’ll admit it. I dreamed about winning the lottery recently. I rarely ever purchase lottery tickets, but I do get caught up in the craze a little bit when jackpots get around $1 billion or more. This happened just a few weeks ago when the Powerball jackpot reached a world-record $2.04 billion!
I purchased only 2 sets of numbers (easy picks) to have a tiny sliver of a chance at winning the Powerball jackpot. I knew the odds were highly stacked against me and that I wouldn’t win. However, holding those potentially winning lottery tickets in my hand allowed me to dream.
In my case, I was daydreaming about what I could do with an absurd amount of money like that. Certainly, I would build a new mansion, purchase a sweet vacation home on a lake, get my dream Corvette and a few other vehicles, plan some luxurious travels, and go out to eat a lot. But those are my selfish material desires that’ll only use up a few million of the winnings. What could I possibly do with the rest of the money to make the world around me a better place?
My dreams were just daydreams. I’m unsure if I’ve ever actually dreamed (while in a deep sleep) about winning the lottery. But many people dream about winning the lottery, and they likely wonder what such a dream means.

What Does it Mean if You Dreamed About Winning the Lottery?
The psychological aspects of dreams and how they connect to your daily life (or maybe don’t connect at all) are extremely interesting. Sigmund Freud published a book, The Interpretation of Dreams, in 1899 – which catapulted dream interpretation as a psychological field of scientific study. Today, many “experts” disagree with his conclusions, and some don’t believe that dreams have any significance to your daily life at all.
Whatever the case may be for your situation, individually – you can choose to believe or not believe that your dreams have significance for your life. Regardless of whether or not your dreams are connected to any outcomes in your life – it’s still fun to read up on the various dream interpretations connected to dreaming about winning the lottery.
Here is one of my favorite quotes on the topic, found in an article about lottery-winning dream interpretation…
Dreaming about winning the lottery could be a projection that you should be doing more in your life than you currently do, that your potential is greater but you are not yet close to reaching it.

In other words… I think that whoever wrote that line is trying to tell you that you are a loser! You’re dreaming about winning because winning only comes in your dreams. After all, you are a loser in life because you are lazy. You need to get up off your ass and start doing something to better your life. Stop waiting for life to give you a handout, and take action to start moving towards fulfilling your full potential.
What are the Odds of Winning a Lottery Jackpot?
Before we get into the dream interpretations, I want to reel us back into reality for a moment. There is an underlying absolute truth about becoming a lottery winner that cannot be ignored, and that truth is derived from something known as mathematics. The numbers never lie!
Here are the mathematical odds of winning one of these huge multi-state lottery jackpots with one set of numbers…
- Mega Millions – 1 in 302,575,350
- Powerball – 1 in 292,201,338
And here are a few examples from the Michigan lottery for odds of winning one of the smaller state lottery jackpots with one set of numbers…
- Lucky for Life – 1 in 30,821,472
- Classic Lotto 47 – 1 in 10,737,573
- Michigan Keno – 1 in 2,546,203
- Michigan Fantasy 5 – 1 in 575,757
16 Dream Interpretations for Winning the Lottery
The psychological aspects of dream interpretation are fascinating, to say the least. However, you have to realize that an interpretation is just that – it’s only an attempt at explaining the meaning of something. As is the case with most interpretations, there could be many different meanings. Here are 16 interpretations of what it means if you dream about winning the lottery…
1 – You’re Hopeful for the Future
If your lottery dreams include you holding a winning lottery ticket, this could mean that you are hopeful. Having hope and looking forward to good things in your future is a good thing. Just be certain not to place all of your hope on circumstances that derive from luck. Be purposeful with your decisions to give yourself the best chance of fulfilling your hopes and dreams for the future.
2 – You’re Expecting Quick Wealth Soon
If you dream about buying that winning lotto ticket worth millions, this could mean that you are quite literally expecting a financial windfall. Whether your expectations are rooted in reality or likelihood makes no difference. The fact remains that most get-rich-quick schemes are highly unlikely to succeed, including winning millions in the lottery.
3 – Your Risk Tolerance is High
If you spend money on any lottery game, you are inherently a risk-taker. Combine this with such a dream about lotto winnings, and this could mean that you are even more of a risk-taker than the average individual. You are probably confident and optimistic that you will hit it big one day. Just don’t let that unfounded optimism lead to your ultimate demise.
4 – You’re Persistent (and Stubborn)
If you keep playing the lottery, week after week, month after month, year after year, and never hit the jackpot – you are persistent. Given the odds and the fact that you’re never actually going to win – some would say that you are stubborn. You’re not going to win the lottery jackpot in real life. Maybe you will in your dreams, but you won’t in this lifetime. Luckily you can take comfort in knowing that persistence (and even stubbornness) is a positive trait that will likely lead to financial gain in other areas of your life.
5 – You’re Not Discouraged by a Long Shot
Almost nothing in life is more of a long shot than hitting the winning numbers for a lottery jackpot. If you continue to play despite the odds stacked so highly against you – you might be a moron. If you dream about winning given the odds – this clearly could mean that you don’t care about the odds. This type of optimism may translate into positive results in other areas of your life – even if you never actually win big in the lottery.
6 – Your Financial Situation is Going to Improve
Some believe that a dream about winning the lottery actually signifies an improved financial situation in real life. This would be similar to receiving a fortune cookie that reads, “Wealth awaits you very soon.” However, there are stories out there (more than one) where lottery winners say they had a dream about winning not long before they actually won. So, there could be something to it. If you have a dream about winning a lotto jackpot, perhaps you should try your chances.
7 – You’re Going to Get Lucky
Having dreams about lottery winnings could signify good fortune in other areas of your life. Such dreams might indicate that you will get lucky in one way or another. Even if you don’t win the biggest lottery prize, perhaps you’ll win prize money from a raffle or something else. It could even suggest that you’re going to “get lucky” in other ways, such as sex, or finding a rare item, or stumbling upon a great deal.
8 – Your Near Term Problems will Only be Minor
Dreaming about having a ticket with the winning lottery combination could symbolize that the here-and-now issues that you’re having in your life will be over soon and won’t be that big of a deal. Near-term problems are only temporary, and such a dream could signify that things will turn around for you soon.
9 – Your Good Deeds Will Be Rewarded
Do you wake up from a dream to realize that you have the winning lottery ticket? It’s possible that this could signify near-future rewards for good deeds that you’ve done in your waking life. This is something known as karma – where the belief is that your good deeds will be returned to you in some fashion. A little bit of karma, combined with a dream about winning a lottery game, sounds like a subconsciously perfect recipe for good fortune.
10 – You Need to Get Your Life on Track (Loser!)
If lottery dreaming is a regular occurrence for you, this probably means that you play the lottery often in real life. If this is true, then you are a loser, and you know it. Everybody who plays the lottery is a loser (even people who sometimes win). To dream about winning or losing the lottery could mean that you are jealous of all those winners. Perhaps you should step away from playing the lottery and focus on something real that will actually make a difference in your life.
11 – You Are Indecisive and Unsure of Yourself
Losing the lottery in a dream implies that you are indecisive. You hesitate to make decisions, and you are doubtful about the outcome (also known as pessimistic). So, instead of making an informed decision on something else in your life, you blow your money on a scratch-off lotto ticket (a sure loser), or you buy a Powerball ticket hoping for quick and easy financial gains. Your failure to make a decision only led to taking risks on the lottery, where winning the jackpot is extremely rare.
12 – You’re Bored (and Quite Frankly, You are Lazy)
A dream about losing the lottery might signify that you are bored with life. If this is the case, you are probably lazy as well. People who are not lazy do not get bored. It might be time for you to look at your life from a different perspective. Find something meaningful to focus your time around so you’ll stop dreaming about minor problems like losing the lottery.
13 – You Don’t Have Any Meaningful Goals
If you dream about losing the lottery, this might indicate that you don’t have any meaningful goals for your life. These could be short-term or long-term goals. Such a dream might be a warning sign that you must devise a plan sooner rather than later. A short-term goal might be to find a job that pays better than your current job. A long-term goal could be ensuring your retirement savings plan is on track.
14 – You Desire Comfort and Security
If you have a dream about buying a lot of lottery tickets, this could represent a subconscious desire for comfort and security. If you play more lottery numbers or purchase more scratch-off tickets, surely one of them must be a winner, right? Playing a rigged game like the lottery will only lead to a false sense of hope for comfort and security.
15 – You Are Jealous and Resentful
If you dream about giving away a winning lottery ticket, this could signify jealousy or resentfulness in your life. Perhaps you learned about a jackpot winner on the news, and you are extremely jealous of that person winning. Or maybe a family member recently had some good fortune that led to material gains, and you are resentful of this person. The hidden details in a dream interpretation like this are a mystery. Be sure to focus only on things that you can control, and don’t worry about the successes or failures in other people’s lives.
16 – You’re Afraid of Success
Here is another twist! What if you dream about turning down a winning lottery ticket that somebody wanted to give to you? This might signify that you are actually afraid of success. There are missed opportunities in your life that may not have been by accident. You purposely sabotage different scenarios that would likely lead to material wealth.
The Winning Lottery Numbers (Revealed)
Want proof that you’re never going to win the lottery? I live in the great state of Michigan, and the Michigan Lottery website actually has a pretty cool tool that shows you all of the winning lottery numbers for various games, including nationwide games like Powerball and Mega Millions.
You can access the Michigan Lottery number tool here, then select a game and play with the tool. For example… I can select Mega Millions, then click on the ‘Your Numbers Up’ tab and insert any set of numbers that I want, and select a date range. Here are the results when I enter a totally random set of numbers with a date range of All Time…
As you can see, this particular set of numbers has only matched three numbers (total) five times in the entire history of the game!
Do You Dream About Winning the Lottery?
Do you dream about winning the lottery and somehow coming up with that elusive winning ticket? To dream about winning is one thing, whether it’s in a daydream (like I do) or in an imaginative illustration in your subconscious mind (while you’re asleep). How you interpret your dream of winning the lottery is another thing altogether.
The interpretations listed above should be taken with a grain of salt. Much the same as the advice you might get from a fortune teller (or even a fortune cookie). These renditions of perceived reality may or may not translate to circumstances that you experience in real life. In any case, it’s fun to dream and explore the possibilities.
How to Win at this Lottery Called “Life”
When you think about it, life itself is a sort of lottery. The way your life turns out is nothing more than a result of circumstances that are guided by the choices that you make. Sure, luck can play a role. But, you have to make decisions along the way to put yourself in a position to receive any luck that might come your way.
It’s true – winning a large sum in the lottery isn’t going to happen to you or me in this lifetime. It’s a near mathematical impossibility. But winning at life is available to anybody who chooses to. Today is your day! It’s time to grab life by the horns and get on with it.
If material wealth is your ultimate goal, then you should probably stop trying to interpret your dream of winning the lotto and instead start formulating a surefire plan to create your own wealth. Forget the false hope of winning the lotto and embrace a new hope fueled by a plan to create passive income!
