Do you even… Disc golf year round like I do?

In a world where fear and paranoia have seemingly taken control of peoples lives – I for one am living my life how I please! I do what I want when I want, and where I want. I wear what I want and I say what I want. I do me the way I want to do me – and the way I see it, you should do you the way you want to do you. Lol.

These days, one of my favorite things to do for leisure and sport is play disc golf. So that is what I do. I play disc golf as much as humanly (and realistically) possible. Throughout the entirety of 2021, I played a total of 55 rounds of disc golf. That was the year that I (and my sons) became obsessed with the sport. We played only 2 rounds in all of 2020 (the year before) and only 3 rounds in 2019.

The Featured Image

My oldest son, Ethan, and I decided to go out and play a winter round of disc golf at one of our favorite local courses. The picture was taken on January 8, 2022, at Old Farm Park in Grand Rapids, MI at the basket for the 5th hole.

Playing disc golf when there is more than just a couple of inches of snow on the ground can be quite challenging for several reasons. Adjusting your footing and run-up on the tee can be tricky. Then you have to watch your disc like a hawk to see where it lands because it will sometimes be completely buried in the snow.

The cold and wind are other factors that add to the challenge. We keep our throwing hands warm with the use of electric hand warmers that we keep in our pockets. A little cold weather and some snow aren’t going to keep us from playing, what has become, our favorite sport for leisure activity!

As I mentioned above – we previously played only a few rounds of disc golf per year as a very casual activity to pass time during the summer months. We became completely obsessed though in 2021. Myself and both of my sons now own really nice disc golf backpacks, filled with many different types and brands of discs. We played 55 rounds in 2021 and we have set a lofty goal for ourselves to play 100 rounds in 2022! We’d never make it if we don’t start in January! So, that is what we are doing.

Matt’s Dumb Ass Weekend Update

AI-generated content seems to be all the rage these days in some internet marketing circles. I jumped on the bandwagon a while back and purchased a plan with Rytr.me – self-described as, “an AI writing assistant that helps you create high-quality content, in just a few seconds, at a fraction of the cost!” I had my Rytr subscription for several months but never really used it very much.

But then I had an idea! I’ve always known that I wanted to get my oldest son, Ethan, involved in internet marketing somehow – starting in his high school years. I want him to learn how to successfully make money online so that, hopefully, he won’t have to flip burgers (or something) as a way to earn money while still in school.

With my assistance – Ethan has started his own niche website on a somewhat obscure topic in a severely underserved niche. Ethan already knows WordPress and a little bit of SEO. Our only problem was finding a way to generate content. We don’t want to pay actual writers and we really don’t have the time to do the research and write the content ourselves. And let’s be honest… Ethan doesn’t exactly possess top-notch writing abilities.

So… I showed him how to use Rytr to produce AI-generated content! We’re using a somewhat complex content cluster strategy and we’re pretty much using 100% AI-generated content using Rytr! I showed Ethan how to use the tool and he picked up on it right away. We only have to make minor adjustments to the content to make sure we have proper keywords and headings in certain places. But as far as research and writing content – Rytr does almost all of the work.

Want to see a quick example…? I’ll have Rytr write part of the next section of this article. I will simply ask it a question and see what it spits out.

The Words Written in Red

What does Jesus say about passive income?

Passive income is the money you make without doing anything. This includes interest on savings, dividends, or rental income. He tells us to invest wisely and to save for a rainy day. We should also help the poor and share with others who are less fortunate than us.

Jesus talks about passive income in Matthew 25:14-30. In this passage, he tells a parable about a master who goes away on a long journey and leaves his money with 3 servants. The first servant is given 10 coins, the second is given 5 coins and the third is given 2 coins. The first two servants invest their money and make more money for their master when he returns from his journey. The third servant buried his 2 coins and returned them to his master and received a harsh rebuke as a result.

My personal favorite part of this story is what Jesus said in Matthew 25:29, as he was wrapping up his parable.

To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.

Matthew 25:29 (NLT)

Well… This is a ‘Passive Income’ Blog

What was I doing when I was 29 years old? That was the year I got married and income-wise, I was just doing the day job thing as a trucker – making barely enough money to pay all of my bills on time and have a little bit left over for fun. I did not start my internet marketing side hustles until several years later. Why am I mentioning this…?

Because I recently read this article about this 29-year-old retiree who brings in $19k per month in passive income. I’ve had this dumb ‘passive income’ blog for 10 years now and I’ve always had the goal of creating ridiculous amounts of passive income on the side. But I’ve never gotten anywhere close to $19k per month.

Regardless – I always love reading stories like that for inspiration and education. It’s a constant reminder to myself to never give up until I achieve my goals.

I Can’t Stop Buying Stuff on Amazon

This is the section in this blog post where I log in to my Amazon account and scroll through the recent orders and share something that we purchased recently that I think you might find interesting. And when I say we… I mean my wife, Susie. She does 90% of the purchasing on Amazon in our household. But I actually purchased this item.

We actually own our own Thermacell and we’ve been using it successfully to ward off mosquitoes for many years. Our is not this nifty lantern style – but it works wonders to keep the mosquitoes away! I purchased this set of lantern-style Thermacell devices as a Christmas gift for the father-in-law.

Your Book Report is Due

I have children and sometimes I read books with my children. Today I am going to share one children’s book that I read somewhat recently with my daughter. This one is called, The Tuttle Twins and The Road to Surfdom, by Connor Boyack.

The Tuttle Twins series of books are designed to teach children about freedom and liberty and how important free-market principles are to maintain these values. This particular book teaches about the concepts of individualism and collectivism and how they differ and how they affect people’s lives. In my opinion, many adults should probably read this book as well – even if it is written for children.

I actually purchased the entire Tuttle Twins series and I’m making a point to read them with my kids so they can learn these important principles that surely aren’t being taught in the public schools that they attend. If you want to learn more about the Tuttle Twins series and what they are all about – check out their website here.

Fortnite, Fortnite – Let’s Go!

Fortnite was sort of dead in our household for quite a few months there. But Fortnite is back and it is alive and well!

My 11-year-old son Eli is basically a pro at Fortnite. He and one of his friends from school joined up with a random in a trios tournament the other day and placed in the top 1% in the entire world! Yeah… he’s really freaking good at Fortnite.

Me? I’m still a terrible amateur. But I’m getting better! During the Christmas / New Year’s break, I had some time to spare and I got in several games of Fortnite. I actually got 3 solo wins during that time period! Yeah – I’m cool, and I know it. Lol.
